Hot Wheels Available in Crazy Taxi Rush App

Back in the 1990s, video game company Sega created a stir in the driving game genre with the introduction of Crazy Taxi.

Debuting in 1999 within the decades that were slowly being shuttered due to the growth of home video gaming, Crazy Taxi had players rushing around the virtual city of San Francisco collecting fares. The main object of each mission has been to deliver passengers to their destination in an allotted time. Making the original Crazy Taxi video game experience memorable was the California surfer-themed visuals, extreme game physics and the accompaniment of music from bands like 'The Offspring' as you rolled through the city.

Being a big fan of the Crazy Taxi franchise from the start, I was overjoyed when I found the Crazy Taxi Rush Android app within the Google Play marketplace. Even though the control setup of the app is different than the arcade game and the route maps can get repetitive, the Crazy Taxi Rush app has been a favourite of mine. I particularly admired the variety of different taxi designs and the customization available for each vehicle. Late last month, the Crazy Taxi world became the latest test track for a popular automotive-themed toy.

Following a February 25th upgrade, participants of the Sega's app game Crazy Taxi Rush were greeted with the colours and insignia of Mattel's Hot Wheels brand. For a limited time, a components such as wheels, decals and a spare tire cover inspired by the popular die-cast toy supplier can be added to a taxi. A crowning piece to the Hot Wheels content on Crazy Taxi Rush is an all-new taxi. The Bone Shaker taxi comes as a highly customized hot rod featuring a skill face grille. Those Hot Wheels-themed items can be purchased through in-game credits (coins and diamonds) or can be won though gameplay.

Running until early morning on Monday, March 9th in Canada's Eastern time zone, Hot Wheels challenges players to collect special red-colored tokens on your taxi's course. By accumulating the special tokens, the player can obtain enough total to win items. If you collect a total of 500 tokens, the Hot Wheels' Bone Shaker becomes yours.

A Canadian Star Car: Red Green's Possum Van

Clip of Possum Van during a Red Green Show season 1 scene transition.  It could be argued that the car someone regularly drives can be reflective of their personality. The level of character traits found in our automobiles can range from subtle to flamboyant as practicality, style, power, brand loyalty and other details are factors influencing our vehicle affection. On the big screen and silver screen, an automobile (frequently popularized as a Star Car) can be used to affirmatively to expand on a human character. Batman’s Batmobile, the Dodge Charger called the ‘General Lee’ in Dukes of Hazzard, the Volvo P1800 featured in the 1960s television version of The Saint, the Aston Martin DB5 driven by James Bond in some of the most famous spy movies are some popular examples where vehicles play a major role in reinforcing the appearance of fictional individuals. Due to the budgetary constraints of Canadian media productions, the presence of native Star Cars is rare. However, one success...

Honda’s Secret 30th Anniversary In Indy Car Racing

Photo Credit: Engine Developments Ltd. Too many times, forgetting an anniversary would end with someone spending time in the proverbial doghouse. This has apparently happened this year as the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season concluded with no major celebrations or recognition for what is 30 years since a major current partner of American open wheel racing began participation in the sport. The following article is a collection of the details I’ve learned as well as some insight from engine builder John Judd on what was a quiet 30th anniversary in the Verizon IndyCar Series. During the week where the 30th running of the Canadian street race now known as the Honda Indy Toronto, I was compelled to capture the flavour of the inaugural event. The viewing experience provided me some insight into a period of time where I was too young to absorb auto racing in the manner I do today. A race that featured television coverage with no regular onscreen statistics, the league used a local ...
