Car FYI’s 2024 Canadian Automotive Guide: Cadillac

Photo Credit: Cadillac/General Motors 2024 Product Lineup:   CELESTIQ, CT4, CT5, Escalade, LYRIQ, XT4, XT5, XT6 Overall Brand Impression:  Cadillac’s premium vehicle range showcases fantastic levels of high-end styling, comfort and performance with sedans as well as sport utility vehicles. While the majority of the 2024 Cadillac lineup retains use of internal combustion engines, there are clear indications that a rapid transition shift towards electrified luxury cars is forthcoming. The arrival of the LYRIQ crossover last year signified the American luxury brand’s future that will become even more prevalent beyond 2024. While focused on the future, Cadillac also reflected on its 20 years of their high-performance oriented V-Series. What’s New for 2024:  The Cadillac nameplate has historically been attached to luxury during what had been regarded as the golden age of motoring between the 1930s and the 1960s. With the electric car age reaching maturity, Cadillac sees ...

How Automobiles Hitting Granite In 1906 Launched The Auto Show In Canada

Photo Credit: Chris Nagy/Car FYI Canada untitled As February passed this year Toronto’s auto show, a mainstay of the winter entertainment calendar, was one of many events forced into cancellation as we deal with our fight to conquer COVID-19. Missing out on occasions and interactions we have almost taken for granted has hopefully presented the thoughts to us all realizing just how precious those moments are. Reflecting on the past of the Canadian International AutoShow drove me to the event’s deepest origin. Though the current iteration of the exhibition dates back to 1974, the show that first acquainted Canada with the automobile in a large scale occurred 115 years ago.   In 1906, Toronto was growing rapidly on numerous fronts. The population in the direct city area exploded from 208,000 in 1901 to 376,500 by 1911. In addition to newcomers calling Toronto home in that first decade of the 20 th century, city limits expanded through several annexations ...

The Cadillac LYRIQ: Poetry in Electric Motion?

Photo Credit: Cadillac/General Motors  Luxury automobile brand Cadillac launched in 1902 when the motor vehicle industry was still in its infancy. Some of the most basic details of the automobile were still coming into form including what would be the preferred manner of propulsion for the new machines. Gasoline vehicles including Cadillac’s offerings competed against steam as well as a very solid challenger being the electric car. Although electricity lost the early days of the industry, the ongoing second century for the automobile is falling into the favour of electric vehicles. Building its reputation of American prestige and elegance with gasoline engines, Cadillac plans to embark on their first vehicle powered through the propulsion they once defeated. Cadillac’s new LYRIQ is designed to allow the luxury marque to explore the uncharted fully electric vehicle future. A stylish premium crossover utility vehicle, the show car representation of the Cadillac LYRIQ exhibits new dep...

5 Designing Women of the Modern Automobile

Photo Credit: Chris Nagy On International Women’s Day, it was prudent for Car FYI to recognize the many contributions of women to the auto industry. As a piece of complex machinery with no discrimination of gender itself, it is disheartening to note how past praise and innovation of automobiles have centred around men. Looking back into history, Karl Benz’s wife Bertha ultimate undertook the automobile’s first major publicity trip and endurance test. She was also instrumental in the financing of the automobile patent but could not be recognized in connections to due to her standing as a married woman in German law. With regards to the other half of Mercedes-Benz, the Mercedes name was derived from a customer of Gottieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach. When it comes to vehicle design, the female influence on automobiles is a complicated story. In cases when men tried to identify with women, a laughable result was the 1955 and 1956 Dodge LaFemme that were even insultingly sexist fo...

Primetime for Cadillac: 2016 CT6 Flagship Sedan is New Plateau for American Luxury

It has probably been decades since the Cadillac nameplate's presence on a large sedan meant world-class luxury. The large luxury sport utility Escalade allowed Cadillac to once again be seen as a mammoth showcase of the brand's premium taste but their flagship business has not seen the same level of enthusiasm. Part of complete revitalization of their business that included a brand-new line-up of vehicles and a new corporate headquarters located within New York City, Cadillac pledged to define the upper echelons of motoring with an all-new sedan for 2016. At the 2015 New York International Auto Show, the CT6's introduction is a big and bold presentation to the world that Cadillac is ready to take back its luxury crown with force. The Cadillac CT6 had been billed as a six-digit priced super luxury sedan. From what is visible with its introduction at the 2015 New York International Auto Show, the car seems like a replacement to the XTS. ...

The following are some past automotive advertisements illustrating to how companies attempted to lure motorists in the past: 1969: Chrysler Scuba Diver In 1969, the Super Bowl was being held for only its third time. The big game was beginning to attract the attention needed to elevate American professional football to a thriving enterprise. However, it would wouldn't be until the mid-1980s when a 30-second spot in the Super Bowl would start selling for over a million dollars. Understandably, most ads televised during the game were not massive productions. 15 years before Apple reinvented the...

Right now, many children are studying their family Christmas trees studying whether the gifts addressed to them will be the highly desired toy or the less intriguing clothing item. When we were young, we were taught waiting would be rewarded on December 25th (sometimes Christmas Eve depending on the family tradition). Sometimes, the anxiety of delivering a gift could prove difficult for the gift giver. Cadillac just couldn't wait until January's North American International Auto Show to show the world their latest gift to the performance luxury sedan market. The latest iteration of the General Motors' premium brand's beloved performance luxury, the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V sedan has arrived ahead of Santa Claus' sleigh.
