The 1.366-mile oval played havoc with the championship ambitions for most of the 16 drivers vying this year’s season-ending crown. Mosport Park or now known as Canadian Tire Motorsport Park opened in 1961 with its first major event held on June 24 th on windy, overcast early summer weekend. Estimated to cost between $600,000 and $650,000 (roughly between $5,250,000 and $5,687,500 in 2021) Mosport Park raceway opened as a much-needed permanent, purpose-built home for sports car and major motorsports in Ontario as well as Canada. Heading into the second year of Canadian racing, the 2016 Nissan Micra Cup will be fought in areas outside of the province of Quebec. Planning 8 race weekends in 2016, the Nissan Micra Cup will involve two races in each event. Races held within the province of Quebec will continue to feature three staged at Circuit Mont-Tremblant as happened in 2015. Also serving as a return date for the Nissan-supported series sophomore season, the tour will also be part of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres again in 2016. This weekend marks the third time the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will preside on a 2.459-mile road course known as Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
