Canadian International AutoShow Revisited: 2013 Edition

Photo Credit: Car FYI Canada/Chris Nagy Theme of the Show: 40th Anniversary- The Legacy The Canadian automotive landscape had certainly changed over a 40-year time span (at least that would be my impression despite the fact I wasn’t alive in 1974). The brands, the technology and the diversity in vehicle types present two different worlds of motoring.  The 2013 Canadian International AutoShow marked four decades of collecting the latest vehicles under a roof during the middle of winter. Humbly started as an exhibition in the International Centre near Pearson International Airport by a local Toronto dealership organization, the modern incarnation of the car show consumed the floor of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre by the time the 40th edition of the show was held.  As one final note worth mentioning about the 40th edition of the Canadian International AutoShow, Media day occurred on Valentine’s Day so it was an occasion where I spent time with a love in my life. ...

CIAS 2017 Info: Looking Forward Through A Review of 2016

Photo Credit: Chris Nagy All the pretty motorized horses are rolling into the City of Toronto this weekend. Drawing what should be guaranteed to be another stellar collection of new and collectible automobiles, the 2017 edition of the Canadian International AutoShow has opened with a new sense of new while what was new in 2016 begins an unfortunate transition to being outdated. Although one year is not a drastic distance back in time, consider the fact the generational life of an automobile is roughly 6-10 years. As the 2017 Canadian International AutoShow is now underway, let's take some time to reflect what transpired at the 2016 gathering of motoring excellence in Toronto Civic Responsibilities: 2016 Honda Civic Wins Big Photo Credit: Chris Nagy The 9th generation version of the Honda Civic released in 2011 was an example where a devotion to a proven formula almost proved poisonous. Although the 9th generation Civic did not deviate from its solid build qualit...

CIAS 2016 Preview: Tesla Takes On Toronto with Model X

Photo Credit: Tesla Motors Tesla Motors has repeatedly beaten odds for a start-up United States-based automaker. Specifically focused on the creation of electric vehicles, the California car builder overcame sceptics with their Roadster and later with the release of the Model S sedan. When the Tesla Model S would gain the honour of Motor Trend's Car of the Year in 2013 , the win of one of the most prestigious vehicle awards meant no one could afford to underestimate the electric car company. As soon as Tesla's buzz reached critical mass in the United States, the brand has expanded rapidly. In Canada, the electric vehicle's image has grown swiftly. Since Tesla's first Canadian sales store opened inside Toronto's Yorkdale Shopping Centre in 2012, addition locations in the Ottawa, Vancouver and Montreal area have spouted up. 17 of Tesla's Supercharger charging stations are also part of the electric car company's Canadian infrastructure. With such a bri...

CIAS 2016 Preview: Toyota’s U Squared Set for Edgy Global Premiere in Toronto

Photo Credit: Toyota Canada Inc. The Canadian International AutoShow always features a lively and eclectic group of automobiles. This year’s show pledges to offer the greatest of 2016 cars, trucks, vans, crossovers, and almost any other class of passenger vehicle on four wheels. Some of the most engaging concept vehicles also arrive in Toronto every year as a firsthand opportunity for Canadians of the great city to chart what progress is upcoming for automobiles. Many times attendees of the Canadian show are the first in the country to witness the bold and high-tech future but we face the reality that we are not the first public members to examine such designs. Sometimes automakers even send concept vehicles that were first displayed several years ago to Toronto. Having brought the i-Road, FV2 Concept and the Fun-VII to previous iterations of the Canadian International AutoShow, Toyota will embark on a fairly uncommon vehicle. As much as their concept design is striking amongst...

Car FYI Car of the Month for February 2015: Ford GT & 2016 Chevrolet Equinox

As a new regular feature on Car FYI, this website will dedicate a vehicle to represent each passing month. I wanted to prepare the feature for last month but planning for the 2015 Canadian International AutoShow and other news slowed that progress. So, to inaugurate the Car FYI Car of the Month honours, I will name two vehicles in order to catch up. For January and February, the two vehicles chosen could not differ more greatly. Car of the Month January 2015: The Ford GT After the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the blue oval brand thrilled the high-performance community with a new iteration of their GT. The new Ford GT supercar understandably dazzled audiences with a shape that truly had to be behold to love for its every curve. Lavish use of lightweight carbon fiber and Pirelli Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 tires defined the two-seat supercar in its world premiere. This is second time Ford Motor Company is res...
