Value Powers The 2016 Chevrolet Spark With $9,995 Starting Price

Canadians have been told the differential in the currency rates would lead to many things becoming more expensive. After several years where the Canadian dollar was valued higher than the United States dollar, there has been a substantial swing in the other direction. This threat of higher Canadian prices is particularly the case with food (although never discount the motivation of plain, simple greed by an opportunistic entity). As expensive items similar in both the United States and Canada, automobile pricing has seen some of the most extreme differences caused through currency conversion. Canadians simply want to know our earnings are being sought by companies that accept the knowledge of how hard we work for our money. With well-priced items serving as a great springboard for attracting our dollar, Chevrolet's newest Spark subcompact could be a satisfying enticement to car buyers flirting under the five-digit price milestone.

Showing the vehicle at the 2016 Montreal International Auto Show, the redesigned 2016 model year Chevrolet Spark's starting price is announced at $9,995. The price tag will represent one of the most affordable paths to an all-new car. The 2016 Chevrolet Spark is not the first subcompact to enter the Canadian market recently such a rock-bottom staring price. A few years ago, the Nissan Micra was released with a symbolic under-$10,000 price tag drawing several headlines.

For the budget-minded base price, drivers will receive a sharp hatchback powered by a 98-horsepower 1.4-liter four-cylinder Ecotec engine, the Spark comes with a standard five-speed manual gearbox. The 2015 Chevrolet Spark is also offered a dual-range continuously variable transmission touts maximize fuel economy potential. Rated at 5.9 liters per 100 kilometers in Canada, the American fuel range through city/highway driving is rated more than 35 miles per gallon.

Promoting an ultra-low price tag, Chevrolet has also created news as the affordable vehicle will not be anywhere near being bare-bones transportation. Targeting the young, connected Canadian motorists, the 2016 Chevrolet Spark includes a seven-inch Chevy MyLink touch-screen infotainment system as standard equipment. Furnishing connectivity through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the Spark wireless device compatibility is heightened by OnStar Wi-Fi hotspot 4G LTE. As well as entertaining occupants, protection is also a paramount issue on the 2016 Chevrolet Spark. Standard rear backup camera and 10 airbags come on every trim level, Rear park assist and an active safety suite consisting of Ford Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning as well as Side Blind Zone Alert is available on the new Spark beyond the $9,995 base price.

The less than $10,000 starting price for the Chevrolet Spark comes as General Motors of Canada recognizes how captivating to the first time new car buyer. In Canada, the Spark supports 35% of motorists who have purchased their first new vehicle. The hatchback also serves an important role for drawing people to the Chevrolet brand. The Spark attracts 45% of buyers who are new to the Chevrolet brand.

Photo Credit: FIA World Rallycross Presented by Monster Energy

A high-flying fan favourite in rally and rallycross competition, American driver Ken Block will take his act to a more international stage in 2016.

The Hoonigan Racing driver has committed to run all 12 rounds of the 2016 FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy (informally named World RX) with the support of Ford Performance. Having completed in just two events part of the World RX tour in his career prior, Block's entrance into the series have all indication of being a competitive first full season. "For a big portion of my career I've maintained a mixed focus and kept a diverse race calendar, but now I'll be focusing myself fully on one single championship." said Ken Block responding to his upcoming plans.

At the age of 48, Ken Block arrives as a full-time rookie in World RX with considerable credentials. Block's early success was related to the Rally America where he posted a total of 16 event victories. Ken Block won the Rally of the 100 Acre Wood on a consecutive basis from 2006 to 2012 and once-again in 2014. Competing in the Global Rallycross tour on a full-time basis from 2012 to 2015, Block has won six events (three occurring in the 2015 season). Ken Block narrowly lost the 2014 season-long title fight by a five-point margin to Joni Wilman.

Despite never having won a championship in rally car-style competition, Block has garnered acclaim for a proven skill in handling showcased on the track as well as in popular viral videos found on social media. Videos featuring Ken Block are attributed to hundreds of millions of views on Youtube.

Since 2010, Ken Block has enjoyed an association with Ford Motor Company. It's going to be a very exciting 2016 and I can't wait to get started.” said Block looking ahead to a racing season that starts on April 16th and 17th in Montalegre, Portugal.

Chevrolet Charges Forward with Bolt EV Production Car

You could say Chevrolet recognized the 'current' stage of development for automobiles last year when they unveiled the Bolt EV concept. The electric car concept itself is far from being an imaginative design study but Chevrolet attached a strong sense of purpose behind the small vehicle first shown publicly at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. The last time such focus and devotion accompanied a radical vehicle proposal from Chevrolet, a 2007 plug-in hybrid concept car was sculpted into the production Volt sedan. Coming to life in a city set ablaze by the illumination of electric signs, the example of the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV production car shines brightly.

A debut at the 2016 CES (Consumer Electronics Show), the 2017 Bolt EV is the second year in a row Chevrolet chose to give the high-tech minded audience in Las Vegas the first look at their electrified production car. Last, year, the second-generation Chevrolet Volt preview also coincided with CES.

Built on a 102.4-inch wheelbase, the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV exterior style differs greatly in design compared to the 2015 concept car. Maintaining the small hatchback appearance, the people mover impression of last year's design study is replaced with a more charming on-road presence. Sporty side contours and a steep raked windshield adds a dynamic edge to the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV. The C-pillar is radically different but still maintains its intention for maximizing visibility. Like the concept car, the production Bolt EV features large windows including at the rear deck lid. The front end of the 2017 Bolt EV sports prevalent grille detailing important to convey Chevrolet's present design language. As is the case with the Chevrolet Volt, the Bolt EV's grille space consists largely ornamental of silver or black panelling. Standard LED front and rear lighting is also part of the exterior of the compact electric car.

The innovative design of the Chevrolet Bolt EV incorporates a spacious and technologically-forward interior. Seating inside the 2017 Bolt EV is categorized as SUV-like with enough room for five passengers. A wireless charging system is located in a multi-purpose centre console supported by ample storage space for a tablet computer. Chevrolet MyLink operating from a 10.2-inch touch screen display is located in what is called a floating instrument panel. Boasting 479 liters of cargo space that exceeds the Honda Fit in capacity, the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV owes thin-framed seats for the abundance of storage room.

Not present in the production Bolt EV is the autonomous drive technology showcased in the concept car. While self-parking does not appear immediately attached to the Bolt EV's introduction, the electric car will offer some extra electronic eyes. A rear camera mirror system will deliver a wide-angle view of the backside of the vehicle while Surround Vision provides an expanded birds-eye view when parking or for low-speed manoeuvring.

Chevrolet has yet to release full details relating to the propulsion for the Bolt EV. The Chevrolet Spark EV operates with a 19-kWh battery pack and it would seem the Bolt EV would need a larger capacity battery to achieve its advertised 200-mile (320-kilometer) range. Packaging for the battery has been contained under the passenger compartment by using a flat design. The Chevrolet electric car will also incorporate a mileage-maximizing feature called EV Navigation Mapping that provides drivers with the most efficient path as well as details for locating charging stations.

Scheduled for production in late 2016, the Bolt EV will be Chevrolet's first dedicated all-electric car. Construction of the Bolt EV will take place the Orion Assembly facility alongside the Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Verano. Price information for sales of the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV in the United States is not officially announced but expected to run around $30,000 based on previous promises from the automaker. Pricing in Canada should be announced in the near future.
