Photo Credit: Chris Owens/IndyCar untitled NASCAR Cup Series: A Truly Successful Night for Truex in Richmond   The second round of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs has gone on show resurgence from the Toyota-backed Joe Gibbs Racing team. After Denny Hamlin took victory at last Sunday night’s Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway , Martin Truex Jr. secured his place in the round championship round by winning at the 0.75-mile Richmond Raceway. The #19 Bass Pro Shops Red White Blue Toyota Camry of Truex started the Federated Auto Parts 400 in third but shot to the lead on the first lap. However, Truex’s start was ruled to have been premature by NASCAR resulting in the top spot to be surrendered to his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin. Hamlin had a dominant run at the Richmond short track leading 197 of the race’s 400 laps and winning the opening two stages of the event. Carving his way back to the front after the opening start of the race,...

Car FYI's Revved Up Weekend Review: September 3-September 5, 2021

Photo Credit: Jared East/Getty Images untitled NASCAR Cup Series: Hamlin Holds Off Charging Larson for Win at The Lady in Black A gruelling 500-mile race on one of the most historic tracks on the NASCAR circuit, the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway had the extra provenance of being the first race of the 2021 Cup Series playoffs. The 1.366-mile oval played havoc with the championship ambitions for most of the 16 drivers vying this year’s season-ending crown. The track known as the Lady in Black claimed Kyle Busch, Chase Elliott, William Byron and Michael McDowell in accidents over the 367-lap race. Though Hamlin was able to keep Kyle Larson behind him through the final 36-lap run as the last lap approached, the driver of the #5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet aggressively entered turn 3 to make one last charge on the #11 Offerpad Toyota field by Joe Gibbs Racing. Rubbing the rear of Hamlin’s car hard through turn 4, Larson’s late effort was ...

NASCAR Xfinity Series: Another NASCAR Win For A.J. Allmendinger

Photo Credit: Sean Gardner/Getty Images untitled The final laps of the New Holland 250 at Michigan International Speedway featured an intense fight between drivers A.J. Allmendinger and Josh Berry not only battling against each other but with their racing image. Despite having won on the ovals four times since joining Kaulig Racing’s Xfinity Series program in 2019. Allmendinger is still working to shake off his appearance as a road racer. Winning a triumphant NASCAR Xfinity Series race on the short track of Martinsville, Berry’s transition to running larger speedways ahead of his 2022 full-season campaign would benefit greatly with a strong run on the two-mile oval. Requiring three green-white-checker overtime finish attempts with the final being for the #54 SportClips Toyota of Ty Gibbs hitting the wall coming out of turn 2, A.J. Allmendinger would pull off his second NASCAR victory in the span of a week following his surprise win in last week's Cup race on ...

NASCAR Xfinity Series: Cindric Nets The Captain's Car Victory in Saturday's Stock Car Event

Photo Credit: Stacy Revere/Getty Images untitled While the elite NASCAR Cup Series raced for their first time on the road course of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Xfinity Series car already had experience battling on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile circuit with Chase Brisoce winning the inaugural event. With Briscoe focused on his hunt for NASCAR Cup Series rookie of the year honours in 2021, a different driver would be the Saturday’s Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard would fight for claim the win. The #16 Chevrolet of A.J. Allmendinger started on the pole for the 62-lap race but his third place starting Kaulig Racing teammate Justin Haley’s #11 car leaped into the lead into the first corner as Allmendinger ran wide. Action on the road course quickly turned chaotic as the 36-car field exited turn six of the opening lap. Several drivers including Harrison Burton, Brandon Jones, Kevin Harvick, Alex Labbe and Josh Bilicki hopped a curb that was placed on the exit of the s...

Car FYI’s Revved Up Weekend Review: August 6-August 8, 2021

Photo Credit: Chris Owens/IndyCar untitled NASCAR Cup Series: Kyle Larson Fends Off Elliott For Watkins Glen Win                        The premier event of NASCAR’s triple-header at the Watkins Glen International road course in the state of New York featured the NASCAR Cup Series competing for 90 laps on the 2.45-mile track. Sunday’s running of the Go Bowling at The Glen started with Penske Racing teammate at the front with Brad Keselowski on pole position alongside Joey Logano. Keselowski led the opening nine laps but lost the lead in dramatic fashion when his #2 Wabash National Ford Mustang spun entering turn 10 on the 10 th lap. Apparent brake issues complicated Brad Keselowski’s race and a similar loss of control occurred entering turn 1 on lap 56 with his car colliding with Logano’s #22 car. After Joey Logano took the first stage and M...

Car FYI's Revved Up Weekend Review: July 9-11, 2021

Photo Credit: Sean Gardner/Getty Images untitled NASCAR Cup Series: Kurt Busch Wins Brotherly Battle At Atlanta NASCAR’s July visit to Atlanta Motor Speedway ended with a Busch sweep. However, the honour would be divided between brothers Kyle and Kurt Busch. The Quaker State 400 presented by Walmart was the last event on a surface dating back to late 1997. During the intermission between the second and third stages of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series event, track repairs were required necessitating a red flag period lasting just more than 19 minutes. When racing resumed, fans were treated to an enticing duo between the #18 Skittles Gummies Toyota from Joe Gibbs Racing driven by Kyle and the #1 Gearwrench Chevrolet from the Chip Ganassi Racing stables piloted by Kurt. First place at the end of the second stage, Kurt Busch had the advantage early into the third stage of the Quaker State 400 but an excellent pit stop by the #18 team propelled Kyle Busch ahead of t...

Photo Credit: Logan Riely/Getty Images   NASCAR Cup Series: Road Warrior Chase Adds Road America as Conquered While his father’s legacy in the Cup series was defined by performances on superspeedway including logging the fastest-ever NASCAR qualifying time at Talladega, Chase Elliott’s career is currently being cemented by the rapid tallying of wins on road courses. This weekend, the driver of the Hendrick Motorsports’ #9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 won the NASCAR Cup Series’ first modern era visit to the 4.048-mile (6.515-kilometer) Road America. Starting deep in the field in 34 th place, Chase Elliott made his victorious move for the lead on lap 46 of the 62-lap Jockey Made in America 250 presented by Kwik Trip on the road course. Prior to the #9 car’s presence at the front of the field, pole sitter William Byron, Kyle Busch, Tyler Reddick and Matt DiBenedetto spent multiple laps in the lead. Car FYI Auto Racing Speed Report for March 4th to March 6th 2016

Photo Credit: Todd Warshaw/Getty Images Keselowski Overcomes Penalty to Win Windy Las Vegas Cup Race Competing within the desert locale of Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the third race of the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season provided an interesting challenger in the form of wacky weather. Extremely strong winds at the beginning of the race resulted in gusts that would have blown car covers off the Sprint Cup racing machine if not for some astute crew members. A very brief rain shower accompanied the wind minutes before the Kobalt Tools was scheduled to start. The momentary mist dissipated and Sunday’s race started with Kurt Busch’s #14 Chevrolet leading the 39-car field. Slowed six times due to yellow flags including a lap 30 competition caution caused by the previous rainfall on the track, the Kobalt 400's most serious melee came on lap 225 shortly after a restart. Matt Kenseth’s #20 Toyota slid loose leading to an incident that would also collect Chase Elliott and Car...

Car FYI Auto Racing Speed Report for February 26th-28th 2016

Photo Credit: Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images Johnson Equals The Intimidator’s Career Win Tally With Thrilling Atlanta Victory The second race of the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season was a drastically different affair compared to the Daytona 500 opener won by Denny Hamlin . Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Folds of Honor Quiktrip 500 was the season’s first use of new low-downforce aerodynamic rules on the stock cars. Differences in car handling and the aged surface of the oval track contributed to a very active race with plenty of competitive passing. Despite vehicles being less stable than in previously years, the 39-car field was slowed by only three cautions with the first coming out on lap 211. Ceasing on an advantage through short-pitting in a late stint to vault over the race-dominating vehicle of Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex Jr, the #48 Lowes Chevrolet piloted by Jimmie Johnson held an advantage of more than five seconds before a lap-324 caution resulting from a spinning #31 ...

NASCAR Amends Restrictor Plate Qualifying Format

Photo Credit: 304945 Matt Sullivan/Getty Images Earlier this year at the Daytona International Speedway, NASCAR's Speedweeks opened on a controversial note. For the 2015 Daytona 500, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series adopted a multi-car group qualifying style that had debuted last season for most races. Designed to provide a more dramatic and faster-moving method departing from the single-car qualifying fashion used for decades, the new method for deciding the pole position as well as the positions for the Budweiser Duel 150 races definitely caused buzz. Unfortunately, much of the reaction after the qualifying concluded was not favourable. A Daytona 500 pole qualifying consisting of two groups of cars, it was a bizarre spectacle to watch as some vehicles drove through the infield grass to immediately to placed with a drifting partner and competitors waiting for the last possible moment to set a fast lap. This...
