2024 Product Lineup: Batur, Bentayga, Continental, Flying Spur

Overall Brand Impression:

Bentley’s reputation for exclusivity and highly-crafted motoring remains high in the auto industry. While the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga models continue to reflect the upper echelons of luxury in 2024, ultra-low production releases such as the Batur are vehicles that could only be created by a modern coachbuilder. Although Bentley has set sights on a fully battery electric-powered lineup by 2030, six years prior to this pledge still sees consistent employment of their twin-turbocharged W12 engine throughout their product range. This will end in April of 2024 when production of the powerplant will conclude.

What’s New for 2024:

The before-mentioned discontinuation of W12 engine production by Bentley is obviously one of the biggest signs of transformation for the ultra-luxury brand in 2024. V8 engines will remain available with Bentley’s 2024 Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga product range with the latter also offered as a hybrid model with a gasoline V6 power unit.

For 2024, the Bentley Bentayga crossover vehicle receives a number of enhancements. A new Bentayga EWB (Extended Wheelbase) better serves rear passengers. Stretching 180 millimeters longer for a total length of 5322 millimeters, the Bentley Bentayga EWB is offered with the company’s Airline Seat specification resulting in what is described as a 4+1 seating configuration. Employing intelligent comfort features such as auto climate sensing system and postural adjustment, the Bentley Airline Seat system can be configured in Business or Relax mode.

Bentley’s luxury crossover vehicle other updates for 2024 includes improved driver assistance enhancements, Bang & Olufsen for Bentley sound system and new exterior paint choices. Standard all-wheel steering is expanded to the Bentayga S and Azure models for 2024. All Bentley Bentayga models incorporate carpeting made with 100 percent recycled, sustainable materials.

The limited production Bentley Batur is serving as the definitive presentation for the outgoing W12 engine. A two-door coupe incorporating four-wheel steering, Speed-tuned air suspension and an electronic limited slip differential, the Batur’s twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 powerplant pumps out in excess of 740PS (approximately 730 horsepower). Just 18 Bentley Baturs will be built.

Bentley Speed Six Continuation Series: Bentley lasting image of high-class British performance motoring was first established through endurance racing. Not only would the early Bentleys survive the gruelling 24 hours of Le Mans, the vehicle make won five of the first eight runnings of the event. The latter part of that reign featured the Bentley Speed Six that took the 1929 and 1930 editions of the 24-hour endurance race. In summer of 2023, Bentley announced the Continuation Series of the Speed Six. The Bentley Speed Six Continuation Series models utilize original drawings and mechanic notes as well as the surviving vehicles to replicate newly produced examples. Powered by a 6.6-liter six-cylinder engine closely retaining the performance of the 95-year-old car, only 12 will be built and sent to awaiting customers. Due to the extensive coachbuilding by Bentley’s Mulliner team, each example of the Speed Six Continuation Series will take 10 months to complete.

A Canadian Star Car: Red Green's Possum Van

Clip of Possum Van during a Red Green Show season 1 scene transition.  It could be argued that the car someone regularly drives can be reflective of their personality. The level of character traits found in our automobiles can range from subtle to flamboyant as practicality, style, power, brand loyalty and other details are factors influencing our vehicle affection. On the big screen and silver screen, an automobile (frequently popularized as a Star Car) can be used to affirmatively to expand on a human character. Batman’s Batmobile, the Dodge Charger called the ‘General Lee’ in Dukes of Hazzard, the Volvo P1800 featured in the 1960s television version of The Saint, the Aston Martin DB5 driven by James Bond in some of the most famous spy movies are some popular examples where vehicles play a major role in reinforcing the appearance of fictional individuals. Due to the budgetary constraints of Canadian media productions, the presence of native Star Cars is rare. However, one success...

Honda’s Secret 30th Anniversary In Indy Car Racing

Photo Credit: Engine Developments Ltd. Too many times, forgetting an anniversary would end with someone spending time in the proverbial doghouse. This has apparently happened this year as the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season concluded with no major celebrations or recognition for what is 30 years since a major current partner of American open wheel racing began participation in the sport. The following article is a collection of the details I’ve learned as well as some insight from engine builder John Judd on what was a quiet 30th anniversary in the Verizon IndyCar Series. During the week where the 30th running of the Canadian street race now known as the Honda Indy Toronto, I was compelled to capture the flavour of the inaugural event. The viewing experience provided me some insight into a period of time where I was too young to absorb auto racing in the manner I do today. A race that featured television coverage with no regular onscreen statistics, the league used a local ...

The 1967 Indy 500: When An STP-Sponsored Turbine Almost Changed Racing

Photo Credit: Uncredited Photographer/IMS LLC Racing has always been the ultimate proving ground for automobiles. Not only has competition promoted innovations big and small, race cars have also influenced overall vehicle appearance. At the 1967 Indianapolis 500, the STP-Paxton TurboCar fielded by the late Andy Granatelli provided a shocking example of how much racing at the speedway evolved over 56 years. Ever since the first 500-mile event was held at the 2.5-mile rectangular oval Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1911, the winning Marmon Wasp with a rearview mirror paved the way for what would be a grand showcase of automotive development. Accompanying “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” advancements in automobile technology showed greater sophistication with every passing decade in the quest for more speed. During the 1920s and 1930s, American race car designer Henry Miller offered groundbreaking engines to the Indianapolis 500. Miller also gave front-wheel drive technology it...
