The announcement and unveiling of the GMC HUMMER EV last year sparked a great deal of curiosity towards how a macho electric truck will be embraced going against the grain of the traditional fuel-burning vehicles. A muscular style revisiting the military-derived aesthetic of the original Hummer models and marketing performance numbers such as 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque seems to have successfully drawn attention to the upcoming vehicle’s capacities. Ahead of the release of GMC HUMMER EV Supertruck with early models arriving in the United States later this year, a companion model with a sport utility body style is announced for early 2023.

Boasting the same athleticism and tough design as the previously-unveiled truck variant, the 2024 GMC HUMMER EV SUV’s inclusion of an enclosed cargo compartment will provide owners access to as much as 81.8 cubic feet of cargo space. Integrated load floor storage and side compartments behind the second row passenger seating allow for organized, secured handling of smaller items.

Compared to the HUMMER EV pickup truck, the SUV version of the upcoming electric vehicle features differing exterior dimensions. At 196.8 inches (4,999.5 millimeters) in total length, the GMC HUMMER EV SUV is 20 inches shorter than the truck. As nimbler version of GMC’s electric platform operating on a 126.7-inch (3,218 millimeter) wheelbase, the SUV actually outperforms the earlier-announced variant in turning radius. When equipped with optional 4 Wheel Steer, the 2024 HUMMER EV SUV can complete a full turning circle in just 10.8 meters. Vehicle width, suspension system, maximum ground clearance and max approach angle remain nearly identical on both body styles of the GMC HUMMER EV SUV.

Standard equipment that will be appearing on the 2024 GMC HUMMER EV SUV lineup includes a tailgate-mounted, full-sized spare tire, Digital Key and a 13.4-inch diagonal infotainment screen that possesses in-depth details relating to energy management as well as battery performance. The HUMMER EV SUV will be available with various trim levels accommodating different equipment and powertrains. With a retail sticker of $88,898 (Canadian price), the HUMMER EV2 SUV has a rated range of 402 kilometers and is propelled through a two-motor setup. The $104,898 GMC HUMMER EV2X SUV maintains the two-motor configuration but contains a larger capacity 20-module Ultima battery pack providing an increased maximum driving range of 482 kilometers. A three-motor setup delivering a maximum output of 830 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque is found on the HUMMER EV3X SUV priced at $119,398. An Edition 1 building from the GMC HUMMER EV3X SUV will be the first version of electric vehicle to release in early 2023 arriving with standard premium 22-inch wheels, floor liners and will be offered with a special Moonshot Green Matte exterior paint option.

Available features on the 2024 GMC HUMMER EV SUV is extensive including the before-mentioned 4 Wheel Steer with CrabWalk and a Power Station generator. An Extreme Off-Road Package adds underbody armour and rock sliders, heavy-duty ball-spline half shafts as well as 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires mounted to 18-inch wheels. Also included in the extensive off-roading package is an UltraVision camera system giving the driver an underbody view over terrain.

The first production version of the GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1 pickup truck (VIN 001) recently sold at the Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson car auction for $2,500,000 US with proceeds fully benefiting the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. While the prominence of being the first vehicle of its type and the charity element of the auction listing played a part, the sale fetching an amount more than 22 times higher the electric truck’s $112,595 retail price highlights the level of anticipation for the potentially game-changing product line.

A Canadian Star Car: Red Green's Possum Van

Clip of Possum Van during a Red Green Show season 1 scene transition.  It could be argued that the car someone regularly drives can be reflective of their personality. The level of character traits found in our automobiles can range from subtle to flamboyant as practicality, style, power, brand loyalty and other details are factors influencing our vehicle affection. On the big screen and silver screen, an automobile (frequently popularized as a Star Car) can be used to affirmatively to expand on a human character. Batman’s Batmobile, the Dodge Charger called the ‘General Lee’ in Dukes of Hazzard, the Volvo P1800 featured in the 1960s television version of The Saint, the Aston Martin DB5 driven by James Bond in some of the most famous spy movies are some popular examples where vehicles play a major role in reinforcing the appearance of fictional individuals. Due to the budgetary constraints of Canadian media productions, the presence of native Star Cars is rare. However, one success...

Honda’s Secret 30th Anniversary In Indy Car Racing

Photo Credit: Engine Developments Ltd. Too many times, forgetting an anniversary would end with someone spending time in the proverbial doghouse. This has apparently happened this year as the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season concluded with no major celebrations or recognition for what is 30 years since a major current partner of American open wheel racing began participation in the sport. The following article is a collection of the details I’ve learned as well as some insight from engine builder John Judd on what was a quiet 30th anniversary in the Verizon IndyCar Series. During the week where the 30th running of the Canadian street race now known as the Honda Indy Toronto, I was compelled to capture the flavour of the inaugural event. The viewing experience provided me some insight into a period of time where I was too young to absorb auto racing in the manner I do today. A race that featured television coverage with no regular onscreen statistics, the league used a local ...

The 1967 Indy 500: When An STP-Sponsored Turbine Almost Changed Racing

Photo Credit: Uncredited Photographer/IMS LLC Racing has always been the ultimate proving ground for automobiles. Not only has competition promoted innovations big and small, race cars have also influenced overall vehicle appearance. At the 1967 Indianapolis 500, the STP-Paxton TurboCar fielded by the late Andy Granatelli provided a shocking example of how much racing at the speedway evolved over 56 years. Ever since the first 500-mile event was held at the 2.5-mile rectangular oval Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1911, the winning Marmon Wasp with a rearview mirror paved the way for what would be a grand showcase of automotive development. Accompanying “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” advancements in automobile technology showed greater sophistication with every passing decade in the quest for more speed. During the 1920s and 1930s, American race car designer Henry Miller offered groundbreaking engines to the Indianapolis 500. Miller also gave front-wheel drive technology it...
